About Carol Wathen

Carol started painting when she was five years old and has continued Art in many different forms ever since.  Growing up and living in Southern Maryland has provided her with a wealth of images from which to draw inspiration.  A self taught artist, who has taken occasional classes from Southern Maryland Community College, Torpedo Factory, and from several individual artists.

Wathen’s love of nature extends to landscapes, as well as the birds and wildlife she mostly paints. Living in St. Mary’s County and on a farm for much of her life she is interested in painting the many historic buildings, especially the tobacco barns.  Surrounded by water on three sides, Wathen’s Herons Rest Studio” provides a panoramic view of wildlife providing her with her inspirations.  She works in acrylic, watercolor and oil.  It is her hope and dreams that through her paintings she can capture the splendor of nature and awaken within each of you a joy and appreciation

You may see her work at the “Heron’s Way Gallery” in the Maryland Antique Center, Leonardtown; “Artworks at 7th”, North Beach, “Frame A Lot Gallery”, Leonardtown, and “Step Above Gallery” Berlin, MD or at her own Heron’s Rest Gallery, Leonardtown, MD.
